Website Blocking

The government can order service providers to block websites for infringing links posted by any users.

Risk of Jail for Ordinary Users

It becomes a felony with a potential 5 year sentence to stream a copyrighted work that would cost more than $2,500 to license, even if you are a totally noncommercial user, e.g. singing a pop song on Facebook.

Chaos for the Internet

Thousands of sites that are legal under the DMCA would face new legal threats. People trying to keep the internet more secure wouldn't be able to rely on the integrity of the DNS system.

Get on the phone and call your representative. Express your disapproval. Tell him or her exactly how you feel, and that you don't support this. Tell your friends to call their representatives, their Congressperson, and complain. Mention that you are a registered voter that takes your civic responsibility seriously and that you will use that vote to express your feelings about this.

“We support the bill’s stated goals — providing additional enforcement tools to combat foreign ‘rogue’ websites that are dedicated to copyright infringement or counterfeiting,” the Internet companies wrote in Tuesday’s letter. “Unfortunately, the bills as drafted would expose law-abiding U.S. Internet and technology companies to new uncertain liabilities, private rights of action and technology mandates that would require monitoring of websites.”  The chamber-led coalition in support of the bill includes Walmart, Eli Lilly & Co. and Netflix.

Google and other opponents of the legislation argue that restricting the Internet in the U.S. sets a bad international precedent and that the language defines infringing too broadly.

Love these silly things

You Are an Alien
You're so strange, people occasionally wonder if you're from another world.
You don't try to be different, but you see most things from a very unique, very offbeat perspective.
Brilliant to the point of genius, you definitely have some advanced intelligence going on.
No matter what circles you travel in, you always feel like a stranger. And it's a feeling you've learned to like.

Your greatest power: Your superhuman brain

Your greatest weakness: Your lack of empathy - you just don't get humans

You play well with: Zombies

New Supes Movie pic out
Okay - now we know that Cavill can be CGIed and Photoshopped into looking very Superman-like in the Suit. (Not so sure about that Suit though. - kinda looks like he's wearing football shoulder pads under there. )

We know from Cavill's other projects that he can act, but will there be a story and script worth us spending our hard earned sheckels on when/if it finally comes out?

Updates to my Fandoms

Well, updates to two of them. All the stories over at the Big Apricot are now available as both PDFs and ePubs. and a new story has come in so go read it and drop the author a line. Reviews are love ya know.

My other fan site is almost recovered from an attack by a canon-Nazi, although for the life of me, I can't figure out how someone relatively new to a fandom can claim that people writing for years about a series where the continuity was so bad as to make it infamous can be violating canon. And then they whined and complained and harassed the old writers for not rewriting stuff that was originally in PRINT.

Sheesh - some people need to get a life. Define canon when the original writers didn't stick to it. I mean, seriously, the writers changed the name of a character in the middle of an episode and the director didn't catch it. How seriously can you take authoritative 'canon' when that happens?

I want a real cannon.
